MV Bucentaur

Me in my offshore civil engineering days when I worked for Stressprobe Ltd. Stressprobe offered the most sophisticated in-situ soil testing available at that time, using the push-in pressuremeter, three of which are shown, one on either side of me and one in front of me. The pressuremeter was basically an inflatable balloon which was puched into the soil and oil was then pumped in. By measuring both the volume of oil pumped in and the pressure the stress-strain relationship of the soil could be determined and this was used for designing the foundations for oil rigs.

I co-authored a paper on the Pressuremeter during my time at Stressprobe.

This shot was taken on board the Norwegian drill-ship, the MV Bucentaur, when we were on location in the Troll Field in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea. The picture would have been taken around 1984/85.
