You could while away hours - and eventually tople over backwards - gazing at the vivid, spiralling reliefs on this 30m high column, erected in AD180 to commemorate Marcus Aurelius' victories in battle. In 1589, Marcus was replaced on the top of the column with a bronze statue of St Paul.
