Piazza Sant'Eustachio
A short walk from the rear of the Pantheon is the Piazza Sant'Eustachio where the cafe of the same name (at the right rear of the picture next to the Camilloni) has what the guidebook said is possibly the best coffee you will ever have had.
Italy has the best coffee in the world, or so I'm told. Espresso is the most popular version. Simply ask for 'un caffe' unless you want to stand out as a tourist. When ordering in a bar, you pay first at the till and then order again at the counter and present your receipt. The other fundamental is that Romans never drink milky coffee after, say, 10am and frown upon anyone who does.
Tea, on the other hand, is lousy. Unless you go to a dedicated tea salon, you're better off getting your own tea bags and waiting until you get back to your room.
To the left of the Piazza, (not seen in the picture) was a small shop with the best gelati 'icecream' I've ever had. This photo was taking whilst I was finishing off my triple cone!
