Vittoriano

The Typewriter

The massive monument commemorating Italy's first king, Vitorio Emanuele II, is known locally as the 'typewriter' and is the biggest modern building in the centre of Rome. It sits on the south side of the Piazza Venezia. It hosts interesting temporary exhibitions (predominantly for Italians) but its most appealing function is as a platform from which to view Rome without this marble monstrosity getting in the way!
